Medical tests reveal that she had been taking medication for bipolar disorder and stopped the pills a week prior. Jamie is charged with murder and released on her own recognizance after agreeing to take her medication, but after rock star Derek Lord, known for his negative views on psychiatry, gets involved and starts leading her defense, Jamie stops taking her medication again. Novak feels sympathy for Jamie, but her insistence on following Derek Lord's advice leaves Novak with no choice but to take the case to court.
